It is very common to experience nausea and vomiting in early stages of pregnancy. Mostly it can occur at any time of the day or night especially in the morning. On the contrary, some women can feel nauseated throughout the day. The causes of nausea in pregnancy are not known, but several studies show that it is the sudden increase in hormonal production in the body. In some cases, eating specific food and not eating enough may also cause nausea. Sometimes, even the smell of some food may trigger nausea.
Dealing with nausea during pregnancy can be challenging, but here are some of the things you should do to curb it:
·         Avoid foods and smells that have proven to cause nausea
·         Drink a lot of water frequently to stay hydrated
·         Eat with moderation

Food poisoning

Eating contaminated food or food that has gone bad causes food poisoning. Symptoms start within a few hours after eating contaminated food. It causes severe dehydration resulting in being nauseated. To handle nausea caused by food poisoning, it is essential to:
·         Take a lot of water and electrolytes.
·         Avoid drinks that contain alcohol and caffeine.
·         Seek medical attention as soon as possible.


Symptoms of a hangover include a headache being nauseous and feeling dehydrated. In most cases, you will struggle to concentrate and to feel irritable all the time. In this case, you can prevent nausea by avoiding alcohol or drinking responsibly.
Some Suggested Remedies
1       If you have a bad taste in your mouth, try rinsing with a solution of baking soda, salt, and warm water before you eat. Use 1 teaspoon (5 grams) baking soda, 3/4 teaspoon (4.5 grams) salt, and 4 cups (1 liter) warm water. Spit out after rinsing.
      2 Do you have a stomach upset? Eat a couple of plain, salted crackers or a rice cake   (particularly if your stomach is empty). The crackers are a tried-and-true remedy for morning sickness. It could be the fact that they’re bland, or that salt helps suppress nausea. Plus, they raise your blood sugar slightly, itself a solution.
     3   The next time you’re feeling nauseous, swallow 500 milligrams of dried ginger in capsule form. You can do this 4 times a day. If you’re pregnant, cut the amount in half. If you don’t have ginger capsules, chew a piece of ginger candy. Ginger should be one of your first choices if you’re pregnant because it is natural and very safe. Numerous clinical studies find it even more effective in curing nausea than Dramamine for motion sickness. It appears to work by blocking receptors in the gut for 5-HT, a form of serotonin, which is responsible for smooth muscle contractions.
     4   Sit quietly when you feel nauseated. Sometimes moving around can make nausea worse.
     5   To make sure your body has enough fluids try to drink 8 to 10 glasses of clear liquids every day. Water is best. You can also sip fruit juices and flat sodas (leave the can or bottle open to get rid of the bubbles). Try sports drinks to replace minerals and other nutrients you may be losing when you throw up.
6       Try to eat 6 to 8 small meals throughout the day, instead of 3 big meals:
7        Eat foods with a lot of water in them. Try clear soups, popsicles, and Jell-O.
      8   Sit up after you eat. DO NOT lie down.
      9     Find a quiet, pleasant place to eat, free of odors and distractions.
